2. REQUEST INFORMATION
  • Detailed information of your request:
    • Dear LSPD,

I am Gregg Hellslinky, a reporter for Weazel News, and I am writing to request a comment regarding the recent collaboration between the Los Santos Police Department and the Los Santos Sheriff's Department, formally known as "Open Juro". As you may be aware, the LSPD has experienced staffing shortages in certain areas of the city, leading to concerns about public safety and the department's ability to maintain adequate patrol coverage.

To address these concerns, the LSPD has called upon the LSSD to provide backup support. However, there have been some concerns from members of the public about the LSSD's reputation for militarization and the potential impact it could have on the community.

As a reporter covering this story, I believe it is important to understand the perspective of the LSPD on this matter.

How does the LSPD view this collaboration between the LSPD and LSSD?
      • Do you have any concerns about the potential impact on public safety or community relations?
What is the criteria that triggers "Open Jurostriction"?
While in the city, are the Sheriff's Department expected to uphold the law to the same standard as the LSPD?
Are the Sheriffs covering shifts within the City given extra training in order to undertake these responsibilities properly?
I appreciate your time and attention to this matter and look forward to hearing your response.

      Sincerely,
      Gregg Hellslinky

The practice of the Los Santos Police Department sharing an open jurisdiction with the Los Santos County Sheriff's Department is not a new phenomenon and has been a relatively common occurrence since the establishment of the Sheriff's Department. Open jurisdiction is not practiced by only one Department to support the other, the Los Santos Police Department assists the Los Santos County Sheriff's Department when its personnel is short-staffed, just as the Los Santos County Sheriff's Department assists the Los Santos Police Department when it is necessary. This is to ensure that sufficient presence is established to continue upholding the laws throughout the state in its entirety.

The Los Santos Police Department only reaches out to the Los Santos County Sheriff's Department for an open jurisdiction when it is in need of assistance, and vice versa. Per the Police Department's manual, the highest-ranking officer on shift may initiate a request for open jurisdiction for the following reasons:
    • Low amount of units on duty.
    • A high amount of calls.
    • A large situation is expected to take place, e.g. Bank Robbery and/or Gang Activity.
    • A large situation has taken place resulting in units being occupied for a prolonged period (e.g. a 10-1).
The Los Santos Police Department and the Los Santos County Sheriff's Department do not determine how to enforce the law within the State of San Andreas. The laws are established by the legislative branch of the state government, and the law enforcement agencies within the state enforce them as documented. This does not differ for either department, regardless of where they are enforcing the law.

The Los Santos Police Department and its leadership actively communicate with the Los Santos County Sheriff's Department and its leadership if instances occur where it is deemed necessary to have a discussion in relation to an occurrence within the respective department's jurisdiction.

Any questions in relation to standards practiced and upheld by the Los Santos County Sheriff's Department or their training methods and practices should be directed to the Los Santos County Sheriff's Department's Sheriff's Information Division instead of the Los Santos Police Department's Media Relations Division.

    Respectfully,
