First and foremost, the Public Notary of the San Andreas Judicial Branch would like to congratulate you and your spouse on the decision to get married or to enter into a civil partnership!

Within the State of San Andreas, marriage, civil partnerships, or civil unions are the legal joining of two people in a personal relationship. Unlike a Common-Law Marriage, civil partnerships registered with the San Andreas Judicial Branch are valid in the eyes of the law of the State and are entitled to all legal perks that come along with it, including but not limited to marital privilege, meaning private statements made between spouses intended to be confidential are ensured to remain private in the eyes of the law.

This document will guide you in your process of getting married or entering into your civil partnership. The steps of this process include:
  • Step 1 • Applying for your Marriage License
    Step 2 • Filing for your Marriage License
    Step 3 • Your Wedding Ceremony
    Step 4 • Your Marriage Certificate

In order to get married or enter into a civil partnership, you must apply for and obtain a marriage license prior to your ceremony. A marriage license is a required legal document in the State of San Andreas for a couple to legally marry or enter into their civil partnership and certifies that both individuals are eligible to enter into these unions. The application for the marriage license confirms that both individuals:
  • Are at least 18 years of age at the moment of filing the marriage license;
  • Are not currently married;
  • Will be getting married in the State of San Andreas;
  • Are not first cousins or nearer, nor kin of each other.
In addition to the above requirements, to complete the marriage license application, a court filing fee of $5,000 must be paid in full, unless you are employed by a company with an active agreement with the San Andreas Judicial Branch, in which case the fee is $2,500.

If you decide to apply for a marriage license, head over to the Getting Married section and use the following format.

Upon approval of your application by an authorized official of the Public Notary and receipt of your marriage license, you can proceed with your wedding ceremony. The license displays the information you submitted on the application at the top and a section at the bottom to record the details of your wedding.

For the planning of your wedding ceremony, you and your spouse are in principle free in the selection of your wedding venue. They can be indoors or outdoors and can range from traditional churches, hotels, banquet halls, parks, gardens, and other unique locations like museums, vineyards, or barns. The purpose of a wedding venue is to provide a space for the ceremony, reception, and other wedding-related events. The selection of a wedding venue depends on the couple's preferences, budget, and the number of guests they plan to invite. For those without the proper budget to rent a specific venue, the Executive Branch of the State of San Andreas Government offers its civilians the space and opportunity to get married at City Hall. However, please note that this will have to be arranged with advanced notice.

Your wedding must occur within 60 days of obtaining your marriage license, must be performed by an authorized official recognized by the San Andreas Judicial Branch, and must be witnessed by two individuals, typically the best man and maid of honor.

The Public Notary of the San Andreas Judicial Branch formally recognizes the following individuals to perform the wedding ceremony:
  • Religious leader or authorized ordained individual of any religious denomination
  • Judge, active or retired
  • Governor of the State of San Andreas
  • Director of the Public Notary, active or retired
  • Speaker of the House of Representatives
  • Licensed Officiant
Within 7 days of your wedding ceremony, the officiant must complete and submit the form on the bottom of the marriage license to the court, as instructed. Please note that this is a formal requirement to have your marriage license obtain legal force.

Once the court has received your completed marriage license as filed by the officiant of your wedding ceremony, you will be issued a marriage certificate. This marriage certificate is a formal, legal document that serves as official proof of your marriage. You are now officially married, congratulations!

(( Please note that once you have received your marriage certificate, you are entitled to a legal name change by Server Staff at no cost to the one specified in your Marriage License Application through the use of /report 1 in-game. ))
