Spike Strips Ends Pursuit of Disgraceful ex. Sheriff's Deputy
-
-
- Los Santos Couty: Spike strips, or stingers, and stop sticks as they are also called, are a tool used worldwide because of their effectiveness in ending dangerous pursuits with minimal potential damage. To be able to deploy spike strips in the Sheriff's Department, the deputy must be a member of the Highway Enforcement Division and be qualified for its usage, as it takes practice and good judgment to deploy them. While the spike strips are known for their effectiveness, it's also a potential hazard and can cause serious injury or damage to surroundings, because depending on the speed of the vehicle that drives over the spike strips, it can lose full control and uncontrollably ram into anything in its near surrounding.

Footage from Undersheriff Bobby Kirk's body camera.
Investigator III Charlie Wilkinson is the hero of the day who was able to end this potentially dangerous pursuit through his quick thinking and great judgment. Investigator Wilkinson is a veteran of the department, and of the Highway Enforcement Division, and we're proud that he was able to quickly predict the route that Mr. Famingo was going to take and that he was able to safely deploy spike strips and end the potentially dangerous pursuit, for not only our deputies involved but also the general public.
