ACCOUNTABILITY REPORT
  • The Sheriff's Department's Internal Affairs Bureau wants to increase transparency and accountability in our process handing incoming complaints from other department, organisations and the general public. In the Accountability reports, you will find a summary and conclusion of complaints concluded in January 2026.
    • #220547
      • A complaint was reviewed regarding the arrest and detention of an individual. An investigator was assigned, and the investigation conducted determining that no violations of Sheriff’s Department policy occurred. However, the investigation found that the arrest and detention could have been handled more effectively. Although there was no breach of Department Policy it was concluded that Actions could be different.

      • A complaint was received alleging Deputies did not take proper precaution when identifying threats whilst responding to a call involving shots fired. Investigators worked tirelessly to thoroughly investigate and review the situation and evidence, allowing them to be able to determine the alleged procedural breaches did occur and that there was merit to the complaint and sustained the allegations. The Deputy was disciplined according to the Sheriff's Department disciplinary process.

      • A complaint was received alleging a Deputy was over familiarizing themselves with affiliated individuals. An Investigator was assigned to the case, and during the investigation of the allegations, the Deputy in question was discharged for reasons unrelated to this case. The investigation was dropped as the Deputy was no longer employed through our Department and we were Unable to Impose a Penalty.

      • A complaint was reviewed alleging a Deputies poor conduct when responding to a 911 call. An investigator was assigned to the case and determined that while investigating the call and scene, the demeanor and advisement provided by the Deputy did not meet our departmental standards. Investigators found merit to the complaint and sustained the allegation. The Deputy was disciplined according to the Sheriff's Department disciplinary process.

      • A complaint was received alleging unsafe vehicle operation and unprofessional conduct by a Deputy. An investigator was assigned to the case and after reviewing all available evidence, An investigator reviewed the complaint and conducted an investigation allowing them to determine there was merit to the complaint and sustained the allegations. The Deputy was disciplined according to the Sheriff's Department disciplinary process.
