The following event took place on Saturday, the 24th of July at around 1230. An otherwise quiet morning shift was interrupted by a pursuit call that originated in the vicinity of Downtown Los Santos, Peaceful Street. A unit attempted to stop a commercial GoPostal van for speeding, but the driver continued to elude with no clear motive in sight. The driver was given instructions via megaphone but to no avail, the initiating unit called for a pursuit which was handled through a tactical frequency. The weight and size of the vehicle presented a significant issue at the time as regular patrol cruisers are unable to handle threats of that particular stature.

Two traffic units along with a unit from the Metropolitan Division responded, both of which are equipped and trained in handling pursuits with medium and heavy-duty vehicles. Additional responding units coordinated through the tactical frequency to pinpoint the exact location of the suspect in an attempt to intercept the then evading vehicle. Units backtracked the situation and verified the driver of the vehicle was the registered owner of the vehicle while traffic units along with members of the Metropolitan Division devised a plan to safely stop the evading van. The commercial GoPostal van did not and does not warrant the deployment of the heavy interception unit, or formally known as the HIU - allowing traffic units and members of the Metropolitan Division to micromanage the threat with recently introduced equipment and vehicles to safely stop the suspect.

  • The pursuit led from Downtown Los Santos to Magellan Avenue in Vespucci which in turn allowed units to follow the suspect vehicle and cordon the path it was taking due to the slow speed of the pursuit. The driver who was known to authorities at the time was confirmed as an unarmed individual with no prior convictions pertaining to violence or reckless driving. The situation de-escalated as time passed by and the driver closed in on the Vespucci area. A daring stop was performed on Magellan Avenue by traffic units in coordination with members of the Metropolitan Division - ultimately stopping the moving vehicle with the utmost security precautions. The vehicle was pinched in by two supporting units from the front and the back, disallowing the driver to maneuver the vehicle.

The vehicle was successfully stopped, but the chase was not over. The evading suspect ran out of his van and gave chase on foot toward the Vespucci Canals. Units in the tactical frequency followed the suspect and coordinated with supporting units to ultimately apprehend the suspect two blocks away from the initial stop. Two supporting units secured the suspect vehicle as Officers gave chase to the driver, apprehending the suspect and securing the scene almost seamlessly. The suspect was charged with one felony and one misdemeanor before they were taken to the Department of Corrections for processing. During the pursuit, no damage to public or private property was reported; additionally, nobody was injured during the dangerous pursuit.
