The Los Santos Police Department strives to investigate each and every situation to the fullest extent in order to properly protect the community it solemnly serves. However, investigations in the field sometimes can not be concluded immediately. There are also times where Officers cannot immediately arrive at the scene of a crime and witness the crime taking place - it is because of these instances the Los Santos Police Department employs the Report a Crime section managed by members of the Detective Bureau.
Report a Crime
  • The Report a Crime section can be found on the Public Website, Public and Internal Affairs of the Los Santos Police Department. Currently, the only way to utilize the Report a Crime section is online through the Public Website. The section is used for citizens to report any crimes they may have witnessed, such as armed robbery, or even fraud. Situations that can not be concluded in the field may also lead to citizens being directed to the Report a Crime section in order for the Detective Bureau to fairly and thoroughly investigate the case.

  • There are two types of forms that can be submitted through the Report a Crime section - the two being the Crime Report Form and the Information Report Form. The Crime Report Form can be used to report any crime witnessed by a citizen.

The Information Report Form may be used to report a piece of information to the Los Santos Police Department that may or may not be a crime. It is important to note that either form is not to be used to report Officers and every Officer Complaint/Commendation should be forwarded through the Commendations and Complaints section - more details on that can be found here.
Report Guidelines
  • Before filing a report it is important to know that there are general guidelines that must be followed. Firstly, you must ensure that you follow the form correctly and provide your information truthfully. It is important to read over the form carefully and ensure that you understand the legal repercussions that would follow should you knowingly give false information.

Secondly, you must ensure that your report contains the appropriate evidence pertaining to the situation being reported. For example, if you are reporting fraud then you should include a picture of any contracts or agreements made. It is important that evidence is not tampered with and all pieces of evidence are submitted when creating the form. Failing to include evidence in the form may lead to your report being denied.

  • (( As reminded in the form itself, it is important to note that the form is entirely In-Character. However, it is necessary for you to provide proof of roleplay for any recording devices. The roleplay should follow Eclipse Roleplay rules and the proof of roleplay should have a timestamp attached with /time. Another way to provide In-Character evidence is to use the /record command. ))

Lastly, you should be as detailed and precise as you could be. Instead of using informal names for locations, you should always try and provide an address where the situation took place. For example, using the location Vinewood Hills is not very descriptive, however, Utopia Gardens, Mirror Park, Metro Los Santos would be an excellent way to describe a location - it is also important that situations are explained completely, including the context in which the situation took place.
Investigation Process
  • Once a report has been sent to the Report a Crime section it will then be reviewed by members of the Detective Bureau. Commonly, a Detective will be handling the report assisted by a Detective Support Officer - the report will then be reviewed for validity, including if the evidence provided can back up the crime being reported, should the report be valid the investigation process will begin and the reporting party may or may not be contacted depending on the status of the investigation.

Crime reports are typically handled by the Detective Support Unit, however, other divisions of the Detective Bureau may involve themselves in the report. If you suffered a loss in the report and are eligible to be reimbursed you may be contacted directly by the overseeing Detective - this is usually the case in a successful fraud investigation that has been reported with adequate evidence. Should you require any further assistance, you may request for a Detective Support Officer to assist you at a nearby Police Station.
