Ride-Along Program

The Ride-Along Program offers civilians and employees of other government agencies the opportunity to get a first-hand experience of what it feels like being an Officer. It is a vital part of our Department and it directly makes these people involved in our day-to-day operations. It is important that you have understood rank authority in terms of Ride-Alongs: Police Officer IIs and above may take a civilian on a ride-along, while Supervisors may approve a ride-along request here on our website.

If you plan on joining the Los Santos Police Department and want to gain experience, or simply want to experience what a Police Officer goes through on a day-to-day basis, there is a universal set of rules, procedures, and liabilities that you must consider before and after submitting your ride-along request.

  • • Before being allowed in a police vehicle, you must first be identified as a ride-along, and you must be searched so that the Officer can make sure that you have no weapons or any other illegal contraband that could jeopardize the safety of an Officer. An Officer must first ask the ride-along for their consent, if they fail to give consent, the Officer must and will terminate the session and make a Supervisor aware of the incident so that your ride-along request can be rejected.

    • A ride-along is only meant to observe from the front passenger seat. At no point should you as a ride-along exit the vehicle unless it is between life and death and your only escape to safety is by abandoning the cruiser and leaving the scene. And at no point should you be involved in official police work.

    • And once again, a ride-along is only meant to observe and ask questions. If a ride-along fails to follow given instructions, then he/she should be driven back to the Police Station so that their ride-along session can be terminated.

RULES & REQUIREMENTS
  • • You must be able to identify yourself with a valid ID or driver's license.
    • Must be at least 18 years of age.
    • Must understand, accept and sign the Waiver of Liability.
    • Must be mental, physically, and emotionally stable during the ride-along.
    • Must not be in possession of any firearm of any type at the time of the ride-along, regardless of your permit.
    • Must be able to follow instructions given to you by your officer in charge.
    • Must be polite and respectful to Officers and civilians during the ridealong.
    • Must not share any classified/sensitive information exposed to them during the ridealong. This includes, but is not limited to, the names of suspects, victims, witnesses; Department procedure, etc.
    • Must not assist Officers with their duties unless explicitly requested to do so.
    • You must be free from previous felony charge(s) and serious misdemeanor charge(s) conviction(s).
PROCEDURE AND WAIVER OF LIABILITY
  • Once your request has been sent to our Department, a Police Officer III+1/Detective I (supervisor) or above will review your request and handle it accordingly. If your request has been accepted, you must make your way to our police station at Mission Row and find a 2nd grade Police Officer to conduct your ride-along. Officer availability is highly dependant on the queue of people awaiting a ride-along partner, time of day, day of the week, and call influxes.

It is important to remember that you must bring some form of identification with you so that an Officer can identify you. You must also remember that you may never bring a licensed firearm to your ride-along session, or any kind of weapon. You must also be prepared mentally and physically for the challenges that you may face together with your Officer. And most importantly, follow instructions given by the Officer in charge.

  • By going on a ride-along with the Los Santos Police Department, you also agree to hereby release and agree to hold harmless the State of San Andreas, the Los Santos Police Department, their employees, from any and all liability for any damage and injury, which I may receive while riding in or upon said motor vehicles and which I may receive while accompanying a Los Santos Police Department member, regardless of the cause of such damage or injury, whether through negligence or otherwise. I agree to assume all risks in riding in Los Santos Police Department's motor vehicles and in accompanying its officers and I am fully aware that personal danger may be involved.

SUBMIT YOUR OWN RIDEALONG REQUEST
  • The ride-along program is a great way to get the first-hand experience of the day-to-day duties, operations, and obligations of peace Officers. Regardless if you submit a request to gain insight, gain experience or collect information for educational purposes, you will be accompanied by Los Santos' finest for your ride-along.

Finally, with all of this information, you can submit your very own ridealong request in THIS section by filling out the form provided, which can also be found in the Ridealong subsection of the Public and Internal Affairs section. A shorter guide on how to submit your request can be found here, in the Ridealong section itself.
