The mission of the Los Santos Police Department is to effectively provide protection and legal service to people and property; preserve public peace, and provide needed community services with the highest level of professionalism and ethical standards. Courtesy, professionalism, and respect are the core values of each and every employee of the Los Santos Police Department. Through this release, you will learn and be walked through the process of filing an Officer commendation, as well as an Officer complaint.

Officer Complaints
  • All people deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. If you have not been treated appropriately by an employee of the Los Santos Police Department, you should contact the Internal Affairs Group. IAG investigates all allegations of excessive force, domestic violence, verbal abuse including bias, and coercion involving violence, involving an employee of the Los Santos Police Department. IAG documents complaints of other forms of misconduct and is committed to conducting investigations that are thorough and fair. Your cooperation and commitment are invaluable to us. The Officer Complaint form can be found here.

If you want to file an Officer Complaint, please include the following information to the best of your ability: The day, date, time and exact location of the incident. The officer's name, badge number, and physical description. Witnesses' names, addresses and telephone numbers. License numbers for any vehicles involved in the incident. Any other evidence you feel may be important such as copies of citations, photographs, and medical records. If you have injuries include their nature and extent. If you are injured it is vitally important that you file your complaint as soon as possible so that photographs can be taken and medical records obtained quickly. When you file your police misconduct complaint, you should receive a copy of it regardless of how it is filed. IAG does receive anonymous complaints. Anonymous complaints will be treated with the same importance as any other complaint; however, please be aware anonymous complaints cannot be sustained without additional evidence.

The complainant and officer(s) in question have the right to make a statement to the investigator to review the procedures followed in the investigation. Preliminary disposition letters will be sent to the concerned officer(s). Additionally, if the investigator deems it neccessary, he will reach out to the complainant for an additional statement. In the event that the complaint is sustained, the Chief of Police may impose a suspension which length will be based on the nature or severity of the breached procedure. If the nature of the allegation requires more serious discipline, or if the officer has had previous instances of the same misconduct, the Chief may send the complaint forward to Police Command for further discussion. Should you have to testify before the investigator, you are not required to have a lawyer.

The Los Santos Police Department regulations require Los Santos Police Officers to cooperate with IAG investigations. These regulations prohibit police officers from threatening, intimidating, misleading, or harassing potential or actual IAG complainants, witnesses, or staff employees. Officers are not allowed to contact complainants or witnesses regarding the issues in a complaint while that complaint is under investigation.

The police misconduct complaint will be investigated by a trained investigator. The investigation may include statements of witnesses and officers, a review of police department records, policies and procedures, inspection of medical records and photographs, and legal analysis. Once the complaint has been completed it will be reviewed by a team of supervisors to ensure accuracy and consistency with Department standards.
Officer Commendations
  • As our professional employees perform their duties, there are many occasions when citizens wish to simply thank or commend certain employees of the police department, and sometimes the entire department as whole, for any number of reasons. We are very interested in hearing about good performance because it validates exactly what we are trying to do; provide the very best service possible. The Department has received commendations by phone, email, and in person by individuals who simply want to say thank you or who want to commend police officer(s) or police employee(s) for specific acts. In order for a thank you or commendation to be placed in the individual’s personnel file, it must be verified, which means we require your name and contact information.

Our officers take pride in their work and appreciate positive feedback from the community. If you would like to recognize an officer for outstanding performance, please use the following form here.-
