The first November snowfall is here, and it brings several traffic safety hazards. The Los Santos Police Department has been closely monitoring the incoming weather reports of early snowfall since late September. According to reports, the snow is expected to last for the duration of the holidays. It is forecast to remain for longer than last year, possibly until the end of Christmas holidays.

This is a great addition to all the festivities and holidays across the isle of San Andreas, but the job of the Los Santos Police Department is to make sure roads remain operable, that traffic is uninterrupted and that everyone understands their responsibility in traffic in these tough road conditions. We would like to remind you that speed limits and similar laws are based on ideal conditions. When following regular traffic laws listed in the penal code, you should add reasonable safety margins to will ensure maximum safety for everyone, yourself included.

Message from Traffic Inspector Belle Cavallera:

Snow is something we are familiar with in Los Santos, and yet every year without fail the Traffic Enforcement Division sees an increase in accidents, injuries, and damage to property as a result of drivers' failure to adapt to the conditions. Traffic Officers have always exercised zero tolerance when it comes to traffic violations, but when conditions such as snow arise, thresholds for charges such as reckless operation are reduced, and we will have much less patience for violators. Snow has a consequential effect on braking and turning, and as such we will be taking our duties very seriously during this season to keep everyone safe for the holidays.

Snow, oftentimes followed by rain and fog can create ice and visibility issues that can be lethal for everyone in traffic. We urge you to be mindful of this, for the safety of yourself and everyone else on the road. Snow covers all lanes of traffic making it very hard to differentiate the correct from the incorrect lane of travel, and patches of ice on highways and intersections are proved to be a serious issue in traffic and require lower speeds, greater distance and increased attention. We advise you to read the following list of advice, to keep yourself and everyone around you as safe as possible.
    -
    • Equip your vehicle with winter equipment, including tires and antifreeze.
    • Inspect your vehicle for any safety hazards before joining traffic.
    • Slow down! Poor conditions paired with excessive speed is lethal.
    • Mind the gap. Distance yourself adequately from vehicles in front of you, stopping distance increases in harsh weather.
    • Keep calm. Sudden braking and uncontrolled accelerating can cause a loss of control.
