With the ever-rising cases of robberies and deprivation of property, in order for law enforcement officers to effectively assist in the possible reacquisition of one's personal property, we must have sufficient information to do so. Below you will find how to effectively report your stolen property for sufficiency, and efficiency.

Reporting a Lost or Stolen Vehicle
Before reporting a lost vehicle, it is recommended that you attempt to track your vehicle using its GPS system found on your phone. (( /showvehicles )). If you are certain that your vehicle was involved in a Grand Theft Auto, please report it immediately by calling 911, Visiting the police precinct, or notifying a nearby Police Officer.

In the event, your vehicle is being actively broken into when calling 911, provide the following information as concisely as possible.
  • Vehicle Location - As specific as possible
  • Vehicle Color [Description]
  • Vehicle Model
  • If you are presently at the scene of the crime, get to a safe area immediately, and do not follow the suspects!
    1. We need the vehicle's exact location, since the 911 call you make only provides us with your location, and not the location of the vehicle, therefore with lack of information, officers will only be able to respond to your location, rather than responding directly to your vehicle's location.
Information to provide
The information required to be provided to the authorities will be:
  • Your Driver's License
  • Vehicle Color / Descriptors (i.e. Design, Decal, or other visible features)
  • Vehicle Model - Can be found online through your phone in the DMV's Database (( /vehiclestats ))
  • Vehicle's Plate Number - Can be found online through your phone in the DMV's database (( /vehiclestats )).
  • (If known) Suspects involved and their descriptions, the direction of travel, last known location, and any additional information that can be utilized to track your vehicle down
Post-Report
Officers will be notified of the vehicle, and efforts will be made to find the vehicle if there is sufficient information. If and when the vehicle has been found, officers will attempt to notify the owner via telephone or text that the vehicle has been acquired. In the event that the registered owner does not answer, the vehicle will be securely impounded.

Reporting Lost or Stolen Firearms
In the event that a firearm registered to you has been misplaced or was stolen, you are required to immediately report it to a Police Officer.

Information to provide:
  • Your Valid Firearm Permit
  • Firearm's Serial Number and Model
  • Is the firearm being reported lost or stolen
  • A statement of how the firearm was lost or stolen

Methods of reporting:
  1. Visit the Mission Row Police Precinct.
  2. Approach a nearby on-duty and available police officer in the field.
  3. Online: Form for Reporting your Firearm Missing/Stolen
If you find a firearm that is not registered to you, you are to immediately call 911 to investigate the matter. Do not lay your hands on any firearms that is not yours as it can compromise the evidence and will automatically implicate you in the investigation. A Police Officer will respond to the scene and the matter will be dealt with accordingly.
