Following a sharp increase in the number of cases of fraud reported to the Investigations Bureau in the past few months, more attention was brought to the sheer amount of private sales that take place in Los Santos in which no sales tax is payed to the Government. City Hall decided to take action to prevent this massive loss of income, while simultaneously combating fraud, by outlawing such private sales under certain circumstances. Today, the 1st of March, 2020, Los Santos City Hall released a press release addressing the addition of a new law to the City of Los Santos Penal Code. You can view the press release here.
The Penal Code has been updated to include GM21 - Sales Tax Evasion (General Misdemeanor). This misdemeanor is applied to
Sales tax is 5% of the total sales price of the item which is calculated and deducted and must be paid at the time of sale.
"any person who, with or without intent to evade taxes, fails to report and pay sales tax at the time of sale, and instead of remitting it to the government, pockets it. The current sales tax in San Andreas is 5%"
Failure to adhere to this results in a $10,000 fine in addition to 30 days in jail.Sales tax is 5% of the total sales price of the item which is calculated and deducted and must be paid at the time of sale.
To best adhere to this law, all items should be sold using official city services, such as the used car market lots for vehicles and realtor services for houses. When you use these services, the 5% tax will be deducted for you automatically, from the amount you receive after the sale ((High/low end for vehicles, sell at the door for houses)).
This also means that the Los Santos Police Department no longer recognizes made up contracts between two parties as legitimate when the item(s) consists of properties, businesses, houses, and/or vehicles. The Investigations Bureau does not guarantee any assistance to victims of fraud if the victim is also found guilty of GM21. As mentioned, buyers and sellers should make use of realtor services for houses and car markets for vehicles.
