INTRODUCING THE FIREARMS LICENSING DIVISION AND REMOVAL OF PERMITS

The Los Santos Police Department is pleased to announce the grand opening of our Firearms and Licensing Division. For the past couple of months, we've been working with the Los Santos Government to tighten up gun laws and create a system where only law-abiding citizens will be able to legally purchase and possess a firearm.
It's no secret that in the past few months, the statistics of gun-related crimes have skyrocketed, and it's also no secret that the State of San Andreas has had some of the most lenient gun laws with little to no control over the sale of legal firearms, but that ends now. Individuals convicted of a felony charge or a serious misdemeanor are no longer able to legally purchase a firearm from any of the gun stores in the State of San Andreas, and neither will they be able to legally possess a firearm. This is much different from before, when anyone, regardless of prior convictions or criminal affiliation, could step into the Police Department and use our computer to purchase a firearm's permit right there on the spot.
With this change, we've also been working with the Los Santos Government to invalidate any active firearm's permits in the system. While you may still be in the possession of your physical copy, it will no longer be accepted in any of the gun stores in the State of San Andreas. If you meet the criteria of a firearm's permit holder, you may apply for a new permit through our Firearms and Licensing Division. With this being done today, you should expect some delay in the handling of permits, but we don't expect to experience a backlog.
We would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Police Sergeant II Cynthia Shelby on being appointed the Interim Commanding Officer of our Firearms and Licensing Division. Sergeant Shelby is a veteran with the Los Santos Police Department and she's a godsend when it comes to processing paperwork efficiently and swiftly, so we have confidence that Sergeant Shelby will work towards improving the current state of the division, as well as assuring quality and efficiency for the community. Sergeant Shelby currently serves as the Commanding Officer of our Air Support Division, Assistant Commanding Officer of our Recruitment & Employment Division as well as our Assistant Watch Commander of Vespucci Precinct.
