  • The incident took place late Tuesday around 2200 in the vicinity of El Rancho Boulevard. Units that had been previously involved in a tactical situation nearby Jamestown Street spotted a recklessly operated sports vehicle committing multiple traffic offenses. An undercover unit that was previously involved in the mentioned situation followed the sports vehicle after requesting additional units to assist with the matter. Traffic units arrived to assist with the nuisance after the unmarked unit had made contact and initiated a traffic stop. The individual had stopped their vehicle outside of the garbage yard on El Rancho Boulevard.

Traffic officers on the scene made contact with the driver and passenger of the vehicle, identifying both as the individuals were compliant and willingly gave documentation - posing no imminent threat. The information of both the driver and the passenger were checked and verified, nothing out of the ordinary was present on their records at the time. A resolution was made on the scene of the traffic stop that the driver of the vehicle was being placed under arrest for reckless operation of a road vehicle after investigation. The driver was informed of the matter and refused to comply with orders given by the arresting officer. After a then successful de-escalation, the driver stepped out of the vehicle as the arresting Officer attempted to complete the arresting procedure.

  • The passenger of the vehicle who at the time posed no threat and was not subject to arrest exited the vehicle during the arresting procedure, withdrew a semi-automatic firearm, a pistol, and opened fire toward supporting units on the traffic stop. The undercover, unmarked unit who previously witnessed the traffic offense take place was quick to return fire as the arresting officer fled for cover. An individual who was later identified as gang-affiliated obstructed the arrest and involved themselves in the lethal exchange of fire by shooting toward the Officers on scene after arriving in a four-door sedan, presumably to aid the now two suspects.

The situation was immediately taken into a joint frequency with the Los Santos County Sheriffs Department as units present on the scene were in severe danger and in fear of being outnumbered. The two gunmen, the passenger, and the late arrival were shot down as the driver was struck in the cross-fire of the heated exchange while attempting to open fire toward supporting units. Deputies of the Los Santos County Sheriffs Department arrived moments later to provide basic life support and cordon the scene; the Special Enforcement Detail of the Los Santos County Sheriffs Department was also passively deployed during the situation as several reports of gang activity were reported in that area throughout the night. Luckily, no civilians nor Officers were injured during the exchange of fire.

The Los Santos Emergency Services swiftly responded with a MEDEVAC unit as one of the three suspects was in critical condition. Two suspects, the two individuals who were present in the vehicle during the traffic stop were stabilized and later arrested while the arriving gunman was declared deceased after succumbing to injuries. The two suspects were later transported to the Department of Corrections for processing without any issues.
